Both fear and hatred are forms of defensive armament to protect the body and mind against some disagreeable external force.
Hatred is fear that has been embraced and internalized such that it causes violence and war.
Fear by itself can turn to hatred, or one can choose to look down upon ones fear, to view it as a negative, and to work continually to resolve that fear peacefully.
This involves both internally removing personal obstacles towards acceptance, and working with the feared to reach a mutual understanding, and eventually a mutual peace.
